The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has issued a stern warning regarding its military readiness amid ongoing tensions across the Middle East. Tehran claims to have prepared a generation of precision weapons that would be far more devastating if hostilities were to break out again.

IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi stated that Iran has made a technological leap in the development of its defence equipment. According to him, the military force Iran would deploy in the future will be very different from that used in previous conflicts.

“If war breaks out again, the weapons we use will certainly be different, both in terms of warhead generation, level of precision, missile range, and other parameters,” Mohebi stressed on Thursday (20/8), as quoted by the Iranian news agency Defa Press.

Mohebi added that senior Iranian military officials continue to ensure the continuous improvement of all weaponry. The main focus of current development lies in creating weapons that are more destructive, have a high degree of accuracy, and are supported by the most advanced technology.

Meanwhile, the tension is also marked by a shift in strategy from the West. A CNN report citing American officials said Washington now tends to shift towards a strategy of gradual economic ‘strangulation’ of Iran.

This step was taken as an alternative to avoid direct open military action. US President Donald Trump has announced a large-scale economic operation aimed at isolating Iran on an unprecedented scale.

Trump also urged allied countries to join the isolation effort in order to pressure Tehran’s economic stability. Nevertheless, Iran has responded to the economic pressure by continuing to showcase the advancement of its military capabilities as a form of deterrence in the region.
