IRGC: Iran possesses technological infrastructure for longer-range missiles
Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Tuesday (22/9) that the country possesses the technological infrastructure to manufacture missiles with significantly longer ranges.
IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi made the announcement during an interview with Iran’s official news agency, IRNA. He emphasised that domestic political decisions must first be made regarding the production of these missiles.
Mohebbi stated that in every confrontation, Iran will introduce new weapons with enhanced range, accuracy, and destructive power, asserting that the battlefield is the best place to test such new weaponry.
He mentioned that Iran has recently tested new missiles against a United States (US) aircraft carrier and a US warship. The missile struck the aircraft carrier within a range of 500 km, he added.
Mohebbi explained that while the attack did not disable the US aircraft carrier, it did cause damage to the vessel. He further stated that Iran believes the attack resulted in casualties, although the US has not officially announced any.
Earlier this month, Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, told state television, IRIB TV, that Iran had launched a significant attack “within the previous 48 hours” against a US aircraft carrier as a warning to ensure “enemies” realise their naval blockades are vulnerable.
