IRGC Commander, Key Figure in Strait of Hormuz Closure, Killed in Israeli Strike

The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Navy, Alireza Tangsiri, has been reported killed in an Israeli military strike. Tangsiri is known as the figure behind the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. According to detikNews on Thursday (26/3/2026), this information was provided by an Israeli official who stated that Tangsiri was killed in a strike in Bandar Abbas, Iran. Israeli media, the Times of Israel, quoted by Al Arabiya, reported that the official also identified Tangsiri as the party responsible for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. As of now, there have been no official comments from Iran or the Israeli military regarding the strike. If the IRGC commander was indeed killed, this would be the latest Israeli attack targeting senior Iranian officials. It is known that Iran maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s oil passes.
