The Iranian military on Sunday (2/8/2026) refuted claims made by US President Donald Trump suggesting that Tehran had requested the United States cancel its attacks. Iran described Trump’s claims as “a new lie,” according to reports from Mehr News.

Sources within the Iranian military also characterised Trump’s statements on Truth Social as a desperate attempt to pressure Persian Gulf nations. The Iranian military emphasised that it remains at its highest level of alert and is fully prepared to respond to any enemy aggression.

Previously, Trump stated that he had agreed to cancel the latest attacks against Iran. “We have been asked by Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to cancel any attacks within the perimeter of an agreed deal,” Trump said.

Parliamentary member Ebrahim Rezaei warned on Saturday that retaliatory strikes would sweep across the Middle East if the US bombs Iran’s energy infrastructure. “If Iran is attacked, we will send the entire region and its facilities back to the Stone Age,” said Rezaigu, a member of parliament and the Iranian Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, as quoted by Iran International.

“It is in your interest not to do anything foolish,” Rezaei added.

According to Rezaei, Washington believes it can launch a swift attack this weekend to force Iran into submission. However, he described this as an “illusion” planted in Donald Trump’s mind by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
