Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran attacked a number of US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain in retaliation for Washington’s strikes against Tehran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Tuesday evening that the US military had carried out a series of new retaliatory strikes against Iran in response to the latest Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM claimed to have completed the operation, targeting more than 80 Iranian sites, including air defence systems, anti-ship missile systems, and IRGC small boats.

“In an initial response to this aggression, IRGC naval and air forces conducted a joint operation and struck 85 vital US military facilities at the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Salman port, Bahrain, as well as the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait using drones and missiles,” the IRGC statement said, as quoted by Fars news agency.

The Iranian military also reportedly shot down an American MQ-9 drone.
