Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed it launched an attack on two American military bases in Kuwait early Monday. In a statement, the IRGC said it had ‘completely destroyed’ fuel tanks and Patriot air defence systems at Ali Al-Salem Air Base. The IRGC also claimed to have destroyed strategic FPS radar systems at Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base. According to the IRGC, the attack was carried out by their air force in the third phase of an operation described as ‘an eye for an eye’. The military operation, according to the IRGC, is a response to US military action against Iran and is ongoing. The IRGC also warned the United States against escalating its involvement in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran stressed it will not allow foreign military intervention to continue in the strategic shipping lane. The statement was made shortly before the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the end of the latest wave of military strikes against Iran. Tensions in the region have escalated in recent days following tit-for-tat attacks between the United States and Iran. On Sunday, Iran stated it had attacked US military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, and Oman in retaliation for Washington’s strikes on targets inside Iranian territory. Meanwhile, CENTCOM stated the latest US strikes were aimed at further degrading Iran’s ability to attack civilian sailors and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. In a separate statement, CENTCOM said the operation had concluded and struck dozens of targets at various locations using precision-guided munitions.
