IRGC: At least 30 ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz in 24 hours

Tehran (ANTARA) — The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says more than 30 ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours. ‘Over the past 24 hours, 31 ships, including oil tankers, container ships, and other merchant vessels, have crossed the Strait of Hormuz under the coordination and protection of IRGC naval forces,’ the IRGC statement quoted by IRIB on Thursday 21 May said.

The United States and Israel have launched attacks on a number of targets in Iran since 28 February, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran has retaliated by striking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East. Washington and Tehran have also announced a ceasefire and resumed talks in Islamabad that yielded no results.

Tensions have escalated, leading to a de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key conduit for oil and LNG from the Persian Gulf to global markets. The blockade has affected exports and oil production. As a result, several countries around the world have seen increases in fuel prices and in industrial goods.
