Irfan Hakim showcases local and Belgian Blue cattle for Eid al-Adha sacrifice
Presenter Irfan Hakim brought various types of sacrificial cattle from different regions and countries for the celebration of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah at his residence in Bekasi.
Irfan said this year’s sacrificial cattle comprised various breeds. ‘The types of cattle are different. Starting from Brahman, Belgian Blue from Belgium. Brahman comes from India,’ said Irfan Hakim at his Bekasi residence on Thursday.
Irfan also featured several Indonesian local cattle breeds such as Peranakan Ongole (PO) and Pasundan cattle. According to Irfan, the presence of local cattle in his sacrifice event supports local farmers to boost their confidence in developing the quality of domestic livestock. ‘The aim is to encourage farmers to be more enthusiastic. Especially for Indonesian local cattle, they should be proud,’ he said.
He believes the public doesn’t need to always rely on imported cattle breeds for sacrifice as local cattle also have good quality. Besides showcasing large cattle, Irfan shared his close bond with a sacrificial cow named Popeye, which he had cared for two years before being slaughtered during this year’s Eid al-Adha in Bandung. ‘Popeye is like a cat. Very affectionate,’ he said.
Irfan admitted having an emotional connection with the cow due to daily interaction after work. He described parting with Popeye as an emotional experience for him and his family. ‘Last time, he really understood. The most heartbreaking moment was when he kissed me,’ said Irfan.
Irfan stated that cattle are sensitive animals capable of responding to human affection. ‘I believe they understand and act according to their desires because cattle are special,’ he said.
Several large cattle were placed in the farm area under the supervision of animal sacrifice management teams.
