Irfan Hakim Applauds Karawang Prison's Livestock Programme for Supporting Food Security

Presenter Irfan Hakim has expressed his appreciation for the livestock programme at the Karawang Class IIA Correctional Facility in West Java, stating it supports inmate rehabilitation whilst contributing to national food security. “This is not just rehabilitation, but also a real contribution to food security,” Irfan Hakim said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday. Irfan assessed that the land utilisation at Karawang Prison is a concrete implementation of the Action Programme of Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto, which aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita mission, particularly in the field of food security. He noted that every inch of land is being used productively, with previously empty areas now developed into rice fields, plantations, and livestock farms. “What I see is not just a slogan, because the programme is truly running. The Minister’s directives have been translated into real work on the ground,” he said. Of the total seven hectares of land, four hectares are used for the prison area, while the remaining three hectares are utilised for agricultural, plantation, livestock, and fishery activities. Accompanied by the Head of Karawang Class IIA Prison, Ma’ruf Prasetyo, Irfan toured various rehabilitation facilities. He observed that the programme not only focuses on livestock but also on character building for the inmates. He saw inmates participating in various activities, such as scouting, sports, skills training, barista training, arts, and religious guidance, with a structured routine from before dawn until the afternoon. Irfan also inspected the rice fields, plantations, and the special telecommunications kiosk service, which allows inmates to make video calls with their families. He reflected that the experience served as a reminder that everyone has the opportunity to improve themselves and use their freedom to do beneficial things. Meanwhile, Head of Karawang Class IIA Prison Ma’ruf Prasetyo stated that all rehabilitation programmes at the facility have been aligned with the directives of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections. “LASKAR Farm not only produces livestock and agricultural products. The most important thing is that it builds character, responsibility, and discipline, while also supporting national food security as part of the government’s Asta Cita mission,” Ma’ruf said.
