Irawati fails to win Circuit tennis

JAKARTA (JP): Irawati Iskandar of Indonesia failed to capture the singles title at the US$10,000 Indonesia Women's Circuit 4 tennis tournament after falling to Suchanan Viratpraseth of Thailand 4-6, 1-6 in the final at the Danamon Tennis Center in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta on Sunday.

Irawati, who beat her teammate Liza Andriani in the semifinal, played hard in the first set but she could not do much in the second set against the powerful Viratpraseth.

Viratpraseth won US$1,600 for her victory while Irawati won $1,000.

The mixed pair of Liza and Benjamas Sangaram of Thailand won the women's doubles beating the Indian pair of Rushmi Chakravarthi and Jayaramasai Jayalakshmy 6-0, 6-3.

Liza and Sangram earned $650 while the Indian pair got $350. (lnt)
