Jakarta - A relative of Mohamad Riza Chalid, Irawan Prakoso, has denied meeting Hanung Budya Yuktyanta, who served as Director of Marketing and Trading at PT Pertamina (Persero) from April 2012 to 2014, to discuss the Merak fuel terminal (TBBM Merak) owned by Riza’s son, Muhamad Kerry Adrianto Riza.

Irawan provided this clarification when presented by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) as a witness in the continuation of the trial for the case file of Hanung Budya and former VP of Supply and Distribution at PT Pertamina (Persero), Alfian Nasution.

“Did you, when meeting Mr Hanung, ever mention anything related to the Merak TBBM that was to be sold at that time?” asked Prosecutor Triyana Setia Putra during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

“No,” Irawan replied.

“You have been sworn in. Based on Article 291 of the new Criminal Code, there is a threat of 7 years if you give untrue testimony in this trial,” Prosecutor Tri emphasised.

Irawan stood by his statement.

During the hearing, Irawan admitted to first knowing Hanung in Singapore.

The two met around 2004-2005, when Hanung was serving as President Director of PT Pertamina Energy Limited (Petral).

“At that time, I had already entered the oil business. It was me personally, not with Mr Mohamad Riza,” said Irawan.

However, that meeting was not to discuss the Merak fuel terminal, which Kerry planned to acquire, but rather his personal business.

“At that time, I was starting a palm oil plantation business. The price was not good then, so I was looking for added value to turn it into biodiesel,” said Irawan.

He claimed to have contacted Hanung to offer his products to Pertamina.

“So, I wanted to turn the CPO into biodiesel. Pertamina is the buyer of biodiesel, so I was seeking information,” he explained further.
