Iraqi PM Orders Probe into Alleged Drone Attack on Saudi Arabia

Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali al-Zaidi, has directed security authorities to investigate an alleged drone attack launched from Iraqi territory towards Saudi Arabia. Sabah al-Numan, spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, stated on Monday that the government is examining all available evidence and will take legal measures against anyone proven to be involved. The government reaffirmed its unwavering constitutional commitment to the principles of good neighbourliness and to preventing Iraqi territory from being used as a corridor or launch point for any attack targeting brotherly or friendly nations. The announcement came after Saudi Arabia reported earlier in the day that its air defence systems had intercepted several drones launched from Iraqi territory towards oil facilities in the kingdom. The drone attack occurred amid a series of reciprocal airstrikes between the United States and Iran, as well as the emergence of a new front in the Red Sea region involving Yemen’s Houthi group and Saudi Arabia.
