Iraqi Government Investigates Drone Attack on Saudi Oil Facilities

Iraqi military spokesman Sabah al-Nauman has stated that the Iraqi government is investigating an attempted drone attack on several oil facilities in Saudi Arabia in order to take firm action against those responsible. The statement follows an accusation by the Saudi Foreign Ministry that Iran-backed groups in Iraq launched the attack on oil facilities in Riyadh Province and the Eastern Province using drones.

“The government is currently reviewing the available evidence and information and, based on the results of the investigation, will take legal action against anyone proven to be involved in the attack,” said Sabah al-Nauman.

He stressed that the Iraqi government is firmly committed to the principle of good neighbourliness and will not allow Iraqi territory to be used as a transit route or command base for any aggression against kindred or friendly nations.

“The Iraqi government will not tolerate any attempt to undermine or harm relations with Saudi Arabia, and will continue to act to ensure the security of that country and strengthen its sovereignty,” al-Nauman said.

Earlier, the Saudi Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems had intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraqi territory that were targeting oil facilities within the kingdom. “Saudi Arabia reserves the right to defend itself, its territory, and its vital infrastructure, and has the right to respond at the appropriate time and place,” the ministry stated.
