Iraqi Court Seizes Rp 187 Billion in Cash and 40 Gold Bars in Ex-Deputy Minister Graft Case

Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council has announced the seizure of cash and gold worth billions of rupiah linked to a corruption case involving a former deputy minister. The haul includes 13 billion Iraqi dinars (approximately US$10 million), an additional US$400,000 in cash, and 40 gold bars, each weighing one kilogram, along with five kilogrammes of gold jewellery.

The assets were discovered hidden in various locations in the northern Salah al-Din province. The seizure is part of a major anti-corruption campaign launched by the Iraqi government targeting officials suspected of embezzling and squandering public funds.

According to an official judicial statement, the confiscation followed extensive investigations into the former deputy oil minister, Adnan al-Jumaili. Authorities had previously announced his arrest on suspicion of financial and administrative corruption before the judiciary expanded the probe to examine his bank accounts, assets, and personal finances. The Supreme Judicial Council confirmed that efforts to locate and recover state assets are still underway, while the cabinet reiterated that recovering public funds is a key priority, working alongside the Federal Integrity Commission to pursue suspects both domestically and abroad.
