Iraq still a threat to region
KUWAIT (Reuters): Kuwait said on Saturday that its "evil"
former occupier Iraq continued to pose a threat to oil-rich Gulf
Arab states.
Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah also demanded
Baghdad's full implementation of Gulf crisis-related U.N.
resolutions.
In an address read in parliament at the start of a new term
the emir said recent Iraqi statements and acts should kill any
"illusions" by some countries about the true "evil and aggressive
intent of the Iraqi regime towards Kuwait and regional states".
In recent months, a number of Kuwait's Arab and foreign allies
who backed the U.S.-led Gulf War which ended Iraq's seven-month
occupation of the small emirate have called for the lifting of
U.N. sanctions imposed on Iraq after its August 2, 1990 invasion
of Kuwait.
