Iraq reports drone attack in the south, near oil fields

A drone attack was reported in a southern Iraqi city where offices of international oil companies and oil fields are located, according to Al Jazeera on Friday, citing Iraqi security sources. “The drone struck the city… in Basrah Province,” the source said, as quoted by the television station. The city hosts offices of international oil firms and housing for their employees, and there are also oil fields nearby.

Meanwhile, according to a statement by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Friday, the Iranian military launched a kamikaze drone strike in a different area, at a surveillance centre in northern Iraq. “This morning, the brave fighters of the IRGC’s drone unit carried out a kamikaze drone attack on a surveillance centre in Surdash [Sulaymaniyah Province in Iraqi Kurdistan] across the border,” the IRGC said in a statement, as quoted by Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB.
