Iraq Probes Drone Attack Threat on Saudi Oil Facilities

Iraqi military spokesman Sabah al-Nauman stated that the Iraqi government is investigating an attempted drone attack on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia to take firm action against those responsible. Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry had earlier accused Iran-backed groups in Iraq of launching the drones targeting facilities in Riyadh Province and the Eastern Province. “The government is currently examining the evidence and information and, based on the results of the investigation, will take legal action against anyone proven to be involved in the attack,” al-Nauman said. He stressed that the Iraqi government is firmly committed to the principle of good neighbourliness and will not allow its territory to be used as a corridor or command base for any aggression against brotherly or friendly nations. “The Iraqi government will not tolerate any attempt to undermine or harm relations with Saudi Arabia, and will continue to act to ensure its security and strengthen its sovereignty,” al-Nauman added. Kuwait has also repeatedly accused Iraq of attempting to launch attacks from its territory. In a statement on Monday, the Saudi Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems had intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraqi territory that were targeting oil facilities in the kingdom. “Saudi Arabia has the right to defend itself, its territory, and its vital infrastructure, and has the right to respond at the appropriate time and place,” the ministry said.
