Iraq Prime Minister and Kurdistan Region President Discuss Middle East Security Situation
Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani has discussed regional security developments with Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, following attacks reported in several Iraqi cities. In a telephone conversation on Friday (6 March), the two leaders condemned attacks targeting locations across Iraq, including within the Kurdistan Region, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office on date X. They also reaffirmed their commitment to preventing Iraqi territory from being used as a launchpad for attacks against neighbouring countries. The two sides emphasised the need for national unity to face security challenges and to safeguard Iraq’s stability, sovereignty, and national security. Separately, the Saudi Ministry of Defence said on date X that a cruise missile intercepted and destroyed ‘to the east of the Al-Kharj Governorate’ (Al Jazeera/P-3). Press TV Iran reported on Thursday morning (5 March) that the military targeted anti-Iran separatist forces, without naming the location of the attack.
