Iraq overpowers Indonesia

JAKARTA (JP): As the Asia Nations Cup finals draw near, Indonesia received another serious warning after a 4-0 drubbing by Iraq in an international friendly match in Genoa, Italy over the weekend.

Indonesia, which will join Iraq at the Cup finals in the United Arab Emirates early next month, defended strongly in the first half, letting the Iraqis find Kurnia Sandy's net just once. However, Indonesian coach Danurwindo made a second-half reshuffle in the defense, only to concede a three-goal spree.

It was the fourth defeat in as many Cup finals warm-ups for Indonesia, leaving Danurwindo in the hot seat. The Indonesians are scheduled to play their last warm-up match Friday against 1994 World Cup finalist Saudi Arabia. (amd)
