Baghdad – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud called for the importance of cooperation to end wars in the Middle East during a telephone conversation on Wednesday, 11 March.

A statement from al-Sudani’s media office indicated that both parties emphasised the necessity of joint action and coordination to halt wars and find peaceful solutions to all crises, away from military options that threaten regional and international peace.

Al-Sudani stressed that Iraq is committed to exerting every possible effort to end the conflict, whilst highlighting its negative impact on regional security. He reiterated Iraq’s rejection of being used as a launching point for attacks against any nation, and similarly rejected having its own territory become a target for strikes.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s crown prince praised Iraq’s efforts in maintaining regional and global security and stability. The conversation took place amid escalating regional tensions following combined American and Israeli strikes against Iran that began on 28 February, which were subsequently met with Iranian retaliatory missile and drone attacks against Israel and U.S. assets throughout the Middle East.
