Iran's UN Representative: US Objective to Topple Government Violates Sovereignty
United Nations, New York — Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani has affirmed that United States and Israeli efforts to replace the regime in Iran constitute a violation of the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The US President and Israeli Prime Minister have admitted responsibility for this aggression and stated their objective is regime change. A clear admission of violating Iranian sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Iravani stated during a UN Security Council session.
He emphasised that military operations conducted by the US and Israel cannot be considered legitimate self-defence.
“The military aggression carried out by the US and Israel does not meet the legitimate criteria for self-defence,” Iravani said.
On Saturday, 28 February, the US and Israel launched a series of attacks against targets in Iran, including Tehran. The aggression, carried out by the US alongside its closest ally in the Middle East, resulted not only in material damage but also civilian casualties.
Iran responded to the aggression with missile strikes against Israeli territory and US military installations in the Middle East.
