Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has expressed condolences over the death of a senior general from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and stated that the “assassination” and “crime” against Iran’s leadership will not halt the country’s progress.

In a written statement, Khamenei paid tribute to Majid Khademi, head of the IRGC’s Intelligence Protection Organisation, for his decades of dedication to “various covert efforts in the fields of security, intelligence, and defence” in Iran.

He also accused Israel and the United States (US) of turning to “terrorism and assassination” after suffering “consecutive defeats.” Khademi was killed in Tehran on Monday (6/4) in an airstrike claimed by Israel.

Khamenei extended condolences to Khademi’s family, colleagues, and other commanders within the IRGC Intelligence Organisation.

Khademi was appointed as head of the intelligence organisation in June 2025, following a 12-day war between Iran and Israel that killed Mohammad Kazemi, the previous head.

Prior to his appointment, Khademi served as head of the IRGC’s Intelligence Protection Organisation.

On 28 February, Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, killing Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians.

Iran responded by launching waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel as well as US bases and assets in the Middle East.
