Iran's Supreme Leader Approves Ceasefire, Negotiations with US
Tehran (ANTARA) - The decision to negotiate with the United States (US) and accept a ceasefire has been approved by Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, according to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday (9/4). “The policy regarding the ceasefire and negotiations was unanimously adopted by the main government institutions and approved by Iran’s Supreme Leader after the United States accepted the general provisions and framework proposed by Iran,” the president’s statement said, quoted through his office. On Tuesday (7/4) night, US President Donald Trump announced that his side had agreed to a bilateral ceasefire for two weeks with Iran, and stated that Iran also agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council then stated that Tehran would begin negotiations with the US on Friday (10/4) in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. At the same time, Israeli fighter jets and artillery attacked dozens of settlements in southern Lebanon, including the main city of Tyre, on Wednesday (8/4). Trump stated that stopping Israel’s attacks in Lebanon is not included in the agreement with Iran due to Hezbollah factors. However, Iran considers this a violation of the ceasefire agreed between the US and Iran.
