Iran's Revolutionary Guard Denies Attack on Kuwait Airport
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has denied responsibility for an attack on Kuwait International Airport. The attack on Wednesday (3/6) local time left one Indian national dead and 63 people injured.
‘Our investigation and review of the attack on the Kuwait passenger terminal shows that the IRGC Air Force did not fire any shots at this target,’ said IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi, according to the IRGC’s official Telegram channel, as reported by AFP news agency on Thursday (4/6/2026).
He stated that ‘the destruction of the Kuwait airport passenger terminal was caused by an error in the American Patriot system, which landed in the terminal after failing to intercept an Iranian missile’.
Previously, the Revolutionary Guard said they were targeting a different location, namely the ‘Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, which houses helicopters for the US’.
The attack on the international airport in Kuwait City, the capital of the Gulf state, temporarily halted airport operations. Air traffic resumed later that day, with all Kuwait Airways flights operating again.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence stated that 30 ballistic missiles and drones were launched as part of a ‘vicious Iranian aggression’, which caused ‘significant material damage to buildings’.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that one of its citizens was killed at Kuwait International Airport and condemned the attack. ‘We once again call on all parties to cease such attacks against civilian targets,’ the ministry said in a statement.
An airport source told AFP that the fatality was a passenger. Kuwaiti Health Ministry spokesman Abdullah al-Sanad stated that 63 people were treated for injuries, ‘including head injuries, brain haemorrhage, amputations, and blast wounds’.
Kuwait International Airport has been targeted several times during the war between the United States and Israel against Iran. The airport only became fully operational again on 1 June.
