Iran's Response to Trump's Ceasefire: Strait of Hormuz to Open Under IRGC Control
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN – US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran on Wednesday (8 April 2026). Shortly after Trump’s announcement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that a temporary agreement had been reached. “If attacks on Iran are halted, our armed forces will cease their defensive operations,” Araghchi said, quoted by Al Jazeera. “For the two-week period, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible with coordination with the Iranian armed forces and taking into account technical restrictions,” Araghchi added. Araghchi thanked Pakistan for mediating between Iran and the US. Further talks are expected to be held in Islamabad in the coming weeks. Through the Truth Social platform, Donald Trump announced the two-week ceasefire with Iran. Israel is reported to agree with Trump’s decision. “I agree to temporarily halt bombing and attacks on Iran for a two-week period, a ceasefire on both sides,” Trump said in his post on Tuesday (7 April 2026) or Wednesday WIB. Trump claimed the ceasefire decision came after his talks with the Pakistani leader as moderator, following Iran’s agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded to Trump’s decision by declaring a war victory.
