Iran's President: Tehran ready to expand cooperation with Pakistan
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday voiced his country’s readiness to deepen and expand bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in various fields.
Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who was visiting Iran.
The Iranian president highlighted the “excellent relations and deep bonds” between the two countries, according to a statement released on the official website of Pezeshkian’s office.
He also underscored the “profound” historical, cultural and people-to-people ties between the two nations, while stressing that Tehran attaches great importance to the interest of Pakistani officials in enhancing solidarity and relations with Iran.
He expressed Iran’s willingness to further deepen its relations with Pakistan in all areas of mutual interest and to lay the groundwork for the development of cooperation.
Pezeshkian said that developing bilateral relations and deepening cooperation could help protect the common interests of both countries and strengthen regional stability and security.
In his remarks, Mohsin Naqvi said his visit to Tehran was aimed at following up on agreements reached during the recent visit of Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni to Pakistan.
Naqvi described the relationship between the two countries as “strong, long-standing and unshakeable”, while emphasising that Islamabad is seeking a comprehensive expansion of relations with Tehran.
The Pakistani minister arrived in Tehran earlier the same day and was welcomed by the Iranian interior minister.
On the same day, he subsequently met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and discussed diplomatic and bilateral issues, according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA.
In recent months, Pakistan has mediated peace talks between Iran and the United States, as well as facilitated the exchange of messages between the two parties.
Thanks to Islamabad’s mediation efforts, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding to end their war last June.
