Iran's Pezeshkian Thanks Qatar, Affirms Readiness to Resolve Regional Conflict
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani that Tehran is ready to work towards ending conflicts and tensions in the Gulf region. He conveyed this to the neighbouring leader who has supported peace efforts. ‘Iran’s president thanked the Qatari government for its ongoing constructive support in peace efforts, stating Iran’s readiness to move towards a dignified framework to end current regional wars and tensions,’ according to a statement from the Iranian Presidency on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Amid ongoing conflicts between the United States (US) and Israel, Pezeshkian said it is time for Washington to demonstrate genuine commitment to peace. ‘Serious efforts are underway, including at expert level, to finalise documents and texts to pave a clear path to stability,’ he said. Earlier this week, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, leading a high-level Iranian delegation in peace talks with the US, visited Qatar. The main topic of discussions in Qatar reportedly concerned the release of Iranian assets frozen by Washington. Citing sources close to Iran’s negotiation team, Tasnim News Agency reported that Iran’s 14-point resolution proposal demands the US release US$24 billion in frozen Iranian assets abroad, or approximately Rp 427.2 trillion. Half of the amount would be released in the first phase, with the remainder to follow later.
