Iran's Leadership Transition Rolls On Smoothly
Iran’s leadership structure continues to function and is unlikely to experience a power vacuum, according to Hassan Ahmadian, associate professor at Tehran University. Speaking to Al Jazeera, Ahmadian said that the Leadership Council together with the Supreme National Security Council currently oversee key strategic decisions. ‘These bodies make strategic decisions and then bring them to the leadership council,’ which can ratify or amend them, he said, describing the process as aligning with the way political decision-making typically unfolds in Iran. Ahmadian added that the succession process is underway in accordance with the Iranian constitution, with discussions reportedly taking place within the Guardian Council. ‘I do not see a scenario in which a power vacuum would occur,’ he said.
