Iran's IRGC strikes US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation

Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Tuesday that its air and naval forces had attacked US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation for American strikes earlier that day.

In a statement published by its official news outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC said its forces, in a combined missile and drone operation, had struck and destroyed US weapons depots as well as a number of ship and helicopter spare parts at Shaikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain.

The IRGC said its forces also attacked Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, destroying and damaging several American MQ-9 Reaper drones.

The strikes were in response to US attacks on Tuesday afternoon against a number of coastal installations belonging to Iran’s armed forces, the IRGC said.

The IRGC said its retaliatory actions would continue for as long as the US keeps ‘committing crimes’, warning that every American attack would be met with a ‘surprising response’.

The developments came as several explosions were heard on Tuesday night in Iran’s southern provinces of Hormozgan and Khuzestan, as the US Central Command announced a new wave of strikes against Iran.

The latest escalation follows days of confrontation between Iran and the US over control of the Strait of Hormuz, despite a US-Iran peace memorandum of understanding signed in mid-June, which stipulated that both parties were expected to begin negotiations within 60 days to reach a final agreement.
