Iran's IRGC strikes US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Tuesday that its air and naval forces had struck US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation for earlier American attacks. In a statement published by its official news outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC said the combined missile and drone operation hit and destroyed weapons depots as well as spare parts for ships and helicopters at the US base in Bahrain. The IRGC added that its forces also targeted a US base in Kuwait, damaging and destroying a number of MQ-9 Reaper drones. The strikes were a direct response to US attacks on Iranian coastal installations earlier on Tuesday, the IRGC said. The IRGC warned that any further US aggression would be met with ‘surprising responses’. The latest escalation came after days of confrontation between Iran and the United States over control of the Strait of Hormuz, despite a peace memorandum of understanding signed in mid-June that stipulated both sides should begin negotiations within 60 days to reach a final agreement.
