Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Iran’s Intelligence Ministry has accused the United States (US) and Israel of still aiming to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran and divide the country. Citing AFP, the ministry stated that these efforts are now being pursued through non-military means after failing to achieve them through open warfare. ‘The enemy is now pursuing the goals of overthrowing and dividing the nation through other means, which they openly declared at the start of recent conflicts but failed to achieve through military attacks,’ the statement quoted on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. Iran’s Intelligence Ministry claimed to have received information that Israel and the US intend to escalate economic pressure on Iran. Iran also accused them of planning large-scale smuggling of weapons, ammunition, and illegal communication devices, particularly Starlink terminals which enable satellite internet access. For decades, Iran and Israel have been engaged in a shadow war involving sabotage operations, including against Iran’s nuclear facilities and the assassination of scientists. However, this occurred before last year’s 12-day conflict. This marked the first sustained conflict between the two archenemies, followed by sporadic retaliatory strikes in 2024 that did not escalate into open warfare. Iran does not recognise Israel and has no diplomatic relations with the country.
