Iran's Defence Minister and Revolutionary Guards Commander Killed in Israel-US Attack
Israel and the United States have conducted a major military assault on Iranian territory. Iran’s Defence Minister Amir Nasirzadeh has been reported killed.
According to Reuters and Al Arabiya on Saturday, 28 February 2026, reports from two sources familiar with Israeli military operations indicate that Nasirzadeh was killed in the Israeli strike on Iran that day. In addition to Nasirzadeh, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Mohammed Pakpour has also been reported killed.
No official confirmation of the deaths of the Defence Minister and Revolutionary Guards Commander has been issued. Neither Iranian nor Israeli authorities have provided statements.
The United States and Israel launched their combined strike against Iranian territory on Saturday morning, Iranian time. The attack was claimed to eliminate threats posed by the Iranian regime.
Separate video statements were released by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, which also signalled support for efforts to change the government in Tehran.
Iran described the attack as a violation of sovereignty. The military promised to retaliate and launch counter-strikes. Iran subsequently launched retaliatory attacks targeting several US military bases across the Middle East.
A series of explosions struck a number of Arab Gulf states hosting US military bases on Saturday, 28 February local time. Reports came from Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait, all confirming explosions following the US and Israeli strike on Iran.
