Jakarta — Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi has issued a strong statement regarding the escalating situation in Iran, highlighting the actions of an alliance between the United States and Israel that he says has targeted important figures and leaders despite their consistent campaigning for peace.

“The other alliance is the United States and Israel, who have committed murder against a figure, a scholar, a leader of a country who, through his fatwa, being a marja or reference scholar, has stated in his fatwa that various forms of violation, production, use, sale and purchase of weapons of mass destruction including nuclear weapons constitutes a forbidden act. The United States and Zionist Israel killed a leader who held such positions and views as I have outlined,” said Boroujerdi during a press conference at his residence in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Boroujerdi also questioned Washington’s claims of supporting democracy, which he viewed as contradictory to their long history of intervention in Iran dating back to 1953. He stated that US involvement has only triggered destruction, from supporting the coup against Mohammad Mosaddegh to suffocating economic sanctions affecting civilians and children.

“Another irony is their claim that the United States wants to help the Iranian people. I would like to ask what kind of assistance is this? Up to 200 primary school children became victims. What kind of assistance do they mean? The world has certainly long been aware of the various kinds of assistance provided by the United States. We have seen examples in Iraq, Afghanistan, and various other regions in the world. US assistance is nothing other than destruction, hunger and total devastation for a country. Is there any other benefit? I do not believe there is,” he stated firmly.

He also detailed a series of physical aggressions carried out by the US and Israel, including the attack on a civilian aircraft in 1988 and the killing of a senior general in 2020. Boroujerdi revealed that the latest attacks in 2024 and 2025 represented the culmination of provocations targeting military sites, economic infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities.

“Since 2010, America has imposed very heavy sanctions against Iran. In 2020, when they saw they could not succeed in subduing Iran, they carried out the assassination of a senior Iranian general who was a figure and hero in the fight against ISIS in Iraq. They directly intervened to carry out this killing. In 2024, they provoked the Zionist regime to attack an Iranian consulate office abroad. On 26 October 2024, they pushed the Zionist regime to attack Iranian military sites, economic sites, civilians and innocent people,” he said.

Tensions reached a new peak in June 2025, with Boroujerdi describing a 12-day consecutive assault using US weaponry. The attack not only killed high-ranking military officials but also targeted nuclear infrastructure under the direct supervision of the international agency IAEA.

“In June 2025, with the support of the United States using American weapons, they carried out attacks for 12 consecutive days in Iran, killing many senior military officials and commanders in our country. At the same time, in June 2025, they attacked the peaceful nuclear site of the Islamic Republic of Iran which is under direct supervision by the IAEA,” he added.

Furthermore, Boroujerdi accused intelligence operations through CIA and Mossad agents of hijacking peaceful civilian action into bloody riots. He described this strategy as a project to create maximum casualties to legitimise military attacks on Iran’s sovereignty under the guise of human rights protection.

“After that, they implement a project to create maximum casualties. Of course, CIA agents and Mossad agents are in the midst of them to create many casualties, and later under the pretext of wanting to support the people conducting demonstrations, they launch attacks against Iran. The owners of mainstream media affiliated with the United States and the Zionist regime are attempting to replace truth with falsehood, replace truth with lies. Perhaps ordinary people can be conquered by them and made to believe them, but I do not think media professionals will believe them,” said Boroujerdi.

Finally, he highlighted Western double standards that ignore humanitarian crises in Gaza whilst continuing to intervene in Iran. He appreciated the consistent support from the Indonesian government and people who have stood on the correct side of history in condemning aggression against his country.

“If the United States and Israel are truly concerned and want to care about human rights, why do they not adopt the same approach in Gaza and disregard the human rights situation there? If they are concerned about the situation of children and women, why are children and women in Gaza being left alone with tens of thousands of children in Gaza becoming victims? These are double standards that are no longer acceptable to public opinion. On this occasion, I wish to express appreciation and thanks to the Indonesian government and people who have stood on the correct side of history, and have issued serious and firm condemnation of this serious action.”
