Iranian Suicide Drone Barrage Strikes USS Abraham Lincoln
Tehran — The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln was reportedly subjected to a volley of Iranian drones in the Sea of Oman on Thursday (5 March 2026). Citing Al Mayadeen, the drones from the Iranian Air Force struck the colossal vessel as it stood within 340 kilometres of Iran’s coastline. A spokesperson for the IRGC’s Central Command, Khatam al-Anbiya, confirmed that the ship serving as a launch platform for US fighter jets was struck as Washington sought to disrupt the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the Strait of Hormuz. Al Mayadeen reported that the volley of suicide drones from Iran reportedly caused panic on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln. It did not take long for the aircraft carrier to turn away. Accompanied by its guarding destroyers, the US combat fleet quickly retreated and is now reported to be more than 1,000 kilometres from Iran’s operational area. ‘Operational preparations and inter-service coordination have changed the equation of this warfare,’ read an IRGC official statement. They asserted that Iran’s military capabilities far surpass the estimates of US or Israeli intelligence. US forces flee Tehran’s narrative has increasingly depicted Washington negatively. The IRGC claims it is monitoring what it calls the ‘cowardly escape’ of American troops from their bases to hotels in host countries. The move by the United States to use civilian facilities as shelter for military personnel is seen by Iran as a ‘human shield’ tactic. Nevertheless, Tehran issued a stern warning: ‘The Revolutionary Guards are lying in wait for the invaders. We will not let them get away,’ asserted Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for Khatam al-Anbiya.
