Iranian Revolutionary Guard Member Killed in Latest US Strike
The latest United States attack hitting southwestern Iran in the early hours of Wednesday (8/7) has reportedly killed a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
This information, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (8/7/2026), was conveyed by Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, citing a recent IRGC statement. So far, there has been no official data from Tehran’s authorities regarding casualties or damage resulting from the latest US attack.
According to reports from the IRNA news agency, an IRGC member died due to a drone strike in Mahshahr, an Iranian port city located not far from the Iraqi border.
“An IRGC member, Mohammad Reza Khazini, was hit by shrapnel and died as a martyr while confronting enemy drones,” stated the IRGC, as quoted by IRNA.
US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees US military operations in the Middle East, announced on Tuesday (7/7) evening that its forces had launched offensive strikes against more than 80 Iran-related targets. These were described as a “direct response to the recent Iranian attacks on commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.”
According to CENTCOM, these targets included Iranian air defence systems, command and control networks, coastal radar locations, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 small IRGC vessels both within and around the Strait of Hormuz.
Washington has also revoked permits for oil sales to Tehran, after three tankers, including vessels from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, were hit by attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, believed to have been orchestrated by Iran.
CENTCOM assessed that Tehran’s attacks were “unjustifiable, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire.”
The IRGC retaliated by attacking US military facilities located in Bahrain and Kuwait.
The IRGC claimed that “the IRGC Navy and Air Force conducted joint missile and drone operations, attacking 85 major US military facilities” in both countries and “shot down an MQ-9 drone.”
As reported by Al Jazeera, the IRGC claimed its strikes hit the US Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain and the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
