Iranian Revolutionary Guard Member Killed in Latest US Strike
The latest United States strike hitting southwestern Iran in the early hours of Wednesday (8/7) reportedly killed a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The information, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (8/7/2026), was conveyed by Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, citing the latest IRGC statement. There has been no official data yet from authorities in Tehran regarding casualties or damage from the latest US strike. According to the IRNA report, an IRGC member was killed in a drone strike in Mahshahr, an Iranian port city located not far from the Iraqi border. “A Guard member, Mohammad Reza Khazini, was hit by shrapnel and martyred while confronting enemy drones,” the IRGC statement said, as quoted by IRNA. US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees American military operations in the Middle East, announced on Tuesday (7/7) evening that its forces had launched offensive strikes against more than 80 Iran-related targets, as a “direct response to the latest Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz”. The targets, according to CENTCOM, included Iranian air defence systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 IRGC vessels in and around the Strait of Hormuz. Washington also revoked licences for Iranian oil sales, after three tankers, including Qatari and Saudi Arabian vessels, were struck in the Strait of Hormuz in attacks believed to have been orchestrated by Iran. CENTCOM assessed that Tehran’s attacks were “unjustified, dangerous, and a blatant violation of the ceasefire”. The IRGC retaliated by attacking US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait. The IRGC claimed that its “Navy and Air Force conducted a combined missile and drone operation, striking 85 major US military facilities” in both countries and “shooting down an MQ-9 drone”. According to Al Jazeera, the IRGC claimed its strikes hit the US Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain and the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
