The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has held war games on the country’s southern coast in the Persian Gulf. The military exercises were conducted amid rising tensions with the United States, which has threatened to attack Iran.

“The joint 1404 (2026) war games of the IRGC Ground Force have begun,” Iran’s state television reported, referring to this year in the Iranian and Gregorian calendars, as quoted by detikNews on Wednesday (February 25, 2026).

The report revealed that the war games were focused on the southern coastal region. However, similar exercises were also held in other parts of Iran. The military exercises involved drones, ships, amphibious vehicles, land-to-sea missiles and rockets, as well as artillery.

“Very good measures have been designed in various sectors, including missiles, artillery, drones, special forces, armored vehicles, and armored personnel carriers,” said the commander of the IRGC Ground Force, Mohammad Karami.

The military exercises were held after Washington and Tehran completed two rounds of talks mediated by Oman. The meetings aimed to reach an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. Further talks are scheduled for Thursday (February 26).

Washington has repeatedly called on Iran to halt its uranium enrichment, but has also sought to curb its ballistic missile program and its support for militant groups in the region. These demands have been repeatedly rejected by Iran.

Meanwhile, Western countries accuse the Islamic Republic of seeking to acquire nuclear weapons. Tehran denies having such military ambitions and insists on its right to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

US President Donald Trump has increased pressure on Iran to reach an agreement. The US has even deployed a significant naval force to the Middle East.

Trump has threatened Iran with military attack if an agreement is not reached. Last week, the Iranian navy conducted another round of military exercises in the Gulf region and around the Strait of Hormuz.
