Iranian Retaliatory Strikes Target US Military Bases in Jordan and Bahrain
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran launched a massive retaliatory attack against United States (US) military bases and assets in the Middle East on Tuesday night (1/9). This move was taken in response to US airstrikes targeting several provinces in southern Iran, which caused civilian casualties.
In an official statement via Sepah News, the IRGC confirmed that its aerospace forces fired ballistic missiles and drones at two key strategic points: Camp Titani in Jordan and Shaikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain. The attacks claimed to have destroyed key facilities and combat helicopters, as well as causing casualties among US troops.
Iran asserted that these actions were a direct retaliation for the US bombing of civilian locations, including a deadly attack on a wedding ceremony in the Sirik region, Hormozgan Province. In addition to the missile attacks, Iranian air defence systems reportedly successfully intercepted a US MQ-9 Reaper drone.
The IRGC warned that US aggression will only strengthen the resolve of the Iranian armed forces to eliminate foreign forces along strategic shipping lanes. They emphasised that US attacks would prolong the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy artery.
The Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) confirmed military activity within their airspace. The JAF stated they successfully intercepted 10 Iranian missiles, while three other missiles landed in remote areas without causing casualties within Jordanian territory.
The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Iran’s highest military command, stated that they are prepared to launch even more devastating strikes if the US continues its aerial aggression within Iranian sovereign territory. Tensions in the region remain at their highest level following official announcements from US Central Command (CENTCOM) regarding the commencement of operations against IRGC targets.
US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of even more terrible attacks and the threat of national destruction if Tehran retaliates against US airstrikes. Iran has vowed to provide a firm response following the US attacks in Sirik, which struck a wedding and caused dozens of casualties.
Meanwhile, the US Treasury Department has sanctioned 10 individuals within a money courier network responsible for transferring hundreds of millions of dollars to Hezbollah and the Iranian IRGC across Lebanon, Turkey, and the UAE. IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebi asserted that Iran has prepared next-generation, high-precision weaponry should hostilities in the Middle East erupt again.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) claims to have guided over 1,000 commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz amidst the escalating conflict with Iran. President Donald Trump emphasised that Washington would take over the collection of fees in the Strait of Hormuz and rejected Iranian claims over the waterway. Additionally, Israeli military officials have denied reports from Saudi media suggesting the IDF Commander apologised to the US regarding the leak of operational secrets concerning attacks on Iran.
