Tehran — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Friday, 13 March, that his government neither proposes nor implements any policy without coordinating with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

Pezeshkian made the statement in a message praising the Iranian people for their exceptional participation in the International Quds Day demonstrations held throughout Iran on Friday morning, according to Iran’s official news agency, IRNA.

The president said he considers himself obligated to fully comply with directives from the country’s leadership in accordance with religious, legal, and national criteria.

“This compliance has been and will remain one of the principles and foundation of national solidarity, as well as the basis for the actions of the fourteenth Iranian government,” he stated.

Pezeshkian said his government’s primary priorities are making necessary preparations for comprehensive defence of Iran’s armed forces against potential attacks from the United States and Israel, and managing public affairs.

On 28 February, Israel and the United States launched a joint attack on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, killing Iran’s supreme leader at that time, Ali Khamenei, along with senior military commanders and civilians. Iran subsequently retaliated with multiple waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US bases and assets in the Middle East.

Iran’s Assembly of Experts appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s third supreme leader on Sunday, 8 March, succeeding his father.
