Iranian President Reveals Details of 2.5-Hour Meeting with Mojtaba Khamenei

According to Euro News and CNN on Thursday (7/5/2026), Pezeshkian did not explain when and where he met Mojtaba. He only described Mojtaba as a humble figure after meeting directly with the son of the late Ali Khamenei. “What stood out most to me in this meeting was Mojtaba Khamenei’s very sincere and humble attitude, perspective, and behaviour, an approach that transformed the atmosphere into one based on trust, calm, empathy, and direct dialogue,” said Pezeshkian. Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed by Iran’s Assembly of Experts after the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US and Israel attack at the start of the war on 28 February. In the two months since his appointment, Mojtaba has not appeared in public and has not released any video or audio material. This has sparked speculation that Mojtaba was also seriously injured in the US and Israel attack. Mojtaba Khamenei was previously reported to have suffered serious injuries in the attack and has undergone several operations on his legs and arms. This Supreme Leader of Iran is said to have difficulty speaking due to severe burns on his face and lips. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth had also previously stated that Mojtaba was injured and possibly “disabled”. Tehran has not confirmed the reports. In a separate part of his speech on Thursday, Pezeshkian called for stricter management of energy consumption and warned against excessive spending. He said Iran’s survival depends on unity and warned against labelling citizens as corrupt, traitors, or working as spies. “People should not be casually accused of corruption, treason, or espionage, creating false boundaries between various layers of society,” said Pezeshkian.
