Iranian President Responds to Donald Trump's Ceasefire Claim
Iran has denied that its president requested a ceasefire in the war with US President Donald Trump. A spokesperson for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian refuted the claim.
“The position of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding national defence of the country’s integrity against enemy aggression and the conditions for ending the imposed war remain unchanged, and no attention is given to the fantasies and lies of the criminals,” said Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei in a post on X, quoted on Thursday (2/4/2026).
“The Iranian people are determined, steadfast, and united in defending their homeland. Unity is the key to our victory,” Tabatabaei added.
His comments came after Trump stated in a post on Truth Social today that Iran’s leadership had asked the US for a ceasefire. Trump’s post did not specify who made the offer, but he said it came from the “President of the New Regime in Iran”.
According to Trump, “that president” is far less radical and much smarter than his predecessors. Pezeshkian himself has been in office since 2024.
