Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to ending hostilities and easing tensions in the Middle East. He stated that dialogue must take place within a “dignified framework.”

The commitment was made during a phone call with the Emir of Qatar, according to IRNA/OANA reports. Pezeshkian emphasised that Iran has consistently kept the door open for dialogue as a means to resolve armed conflicts.

He stressed that Iran has demonstrated its commitment to dialogue, and now calls on other parties to show genuine political will and adhere to international obligations.

Open tensions erupted following a joint US-Israel attack on Iran on 28 February 2026. Iran retaliated by striking strategic targets in Israel and US military bases in the region.

After 40 days of intense fighting, a breakthrough emerged through Pakistan’s mediation. A two-week ceasefire began on 7 April 2026, which has since served as the foundation for further diplomatic efforts.

Pezeshkian believes regional stability can only be achieved if all international actors respect sovereignty and prioritise political solutions over military confrontation.

Iran’s outreach to Qatar is seen as a strategic move, given Qatar’s role as a mediator between Tehran and Western powers. Neither Washington nor Tel Aviv has issued an official statement regarding Iran’s “dignified dialogue” offer.
