Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian Affirms Diplomacy as Primary Choice
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has affirmed his country’s commitment to upholding its legitimate national rights through dialogue and diplomacy. Pezeshkian believes that the diplomatic approach must be the primary choice in advancing Tehran’s strategic interests on the international stage.
The statement was made by Pezeshkian while chairing a cabinet meeting on Sunday (21/6/2026), amid crucial negotiations between Iran and the United States in Switzerland. The talks are mediated by Pakistan and Qatar as part of an intensive 60-day negotiation process aimed at reaching a final agreement between the two countries.
On that occasion, Pezeshkian stressed that Iran will not retreat in defending its sovereignty and interests. However, he assured that Tehran remains wide open to a peaceful resolution.
“If Iran’s rights can be obtained through dialogue and negotiation, then there is no reason for Tehran to continue the conflict,” Pezeshkian said, as quoted by the IRNA news agency on Monday (22/6/2026).
In addition to focusing on foreign affairs, the Iranian President also highlighted the importance of national unity. According to him, internal solidarity is one of Iran’s greatest achievements after enduring a period of tension and a series of attacks involving the United States and Israel.
Pezeshkian assessed that inter-institutional coordination within the country is currently running very well, demonstrating a level of cohesion never seen before. This condition is considered a vital political and security asset for Iran’s bargaining position at the negotiating table.
“The great and extraordinary developments we are witnessing today are the result of unprecedented coordination, as well as solidarity among the political, executive, military, security, and judicial sectors of the country,” he asserted.
Pezeshkian emphasised that this spirit of unity must be maintained in tandem with the ongoing diplomatic efforts. He believes that successful cross-sector coordination is a decisive factor in facing complex global challenges.
The world is now paying close attention to the negotiations in Switzerland. These talks are expected to pave the way for a more comprehensive agreement between Tehran and Washington, in order to end years of tension and stabilise the Middle East region.
Previously, Pezeshkian had repeatedly stated that while Iran will not waver in defending its rights, the top priority remains the protection of national interests through legitimate international mechanisms.
