Iranian President does not support continued war with the US
Ankara (ANTARA) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Friday that he does not support the continuation of war with the United States (US), while calling for the strengthening of Iran’s resilience to face the next phase.
These remarks were made during a meeting with university leaders in Iran, according to the local news agency Mehr News Agency.
“I do not support the continuation of war, but we must strengthen the nation’s resilience in facing future developments,” said Pezeshkian when asked regarding the conflict with Washington.
According to him, strengthening national resilience must be achieved through measures that do not force Iran to negotiate with the “enemy” from a position of weakness. He also requested that universities support the government in this endeavour.
The Iranian President stated that economic policies must take existing social conditions into account. He warned that ill-considered measures could lead to losses rather than providing solutions.
“We must utilise the contributions of Generation Z students to resolve societal issues, as well as ensure they participate in providing solutions, rather than being involved in protests,” he said.
Pezeshkian emphasised that, as president, he holds no political affiliations with specific groups. He stated that he is open to cooperating with all political groups and anyone who contributes to overcoming the crises facing Iran.
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on 28 February, prompting Tehran to launch missiles at Israel and attack US targets and bases in several countries across the region.
Iran also announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, which caused widespread disruption to global energy and trade flows.
On 18 June, Washington and Tehran reached a memorandum of understanding to end military operations, including guarantees for commercial vessels to transit the Strait of Hormuz and the commencement of negotiations to reach a final agreement within 60 days.
However, the understanding subsequently failed to materialise, and clashes resumed in July. The US launched further attacks against several targets in Iran and re-imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
