Iranian Parliament Speaker Bagher Ghalibaf and Vance Shake Hands in Negotiations in Pakistan

Moscow (ANTARA) - Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and United States Vice President J.D. Vance shook hands during talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Saturday (11/4), according to a New York Times report citing two senior Iranian officials.

Iran and the US began talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Saturday (11/4). The Iranian delegation was led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and included Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, National Security Council Chairman Ali Akbar Ahmadian, and Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati.

Meanwhile, Vance led the US delegation, accompanied by two special envoys of US President Donald Trump, namely Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Sources from the newspaper described the atmosphere of the talks as calm and friendly. However, the New York Times emphasised that the discussions had not yet produced any diplomatic breakthroughs.

Previously, on Wednesday (8/4), Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been reached with Iran regarding a two-week ceasefire. Abbas Araghchi also announced the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for about 20 percent of the world’s supply of oil, petroleum products, and LNG.
