A series of loud explosions were heard over the Jerusalem sky following the Israeli military’s announcement that it had detected a missile launch from Iran.

According to AFP, the explosions occurred on Sunday, 1 March 2026 local time, reported on Monday, 2 March. The blasts were heard after warning sirens sounded across various areas of the city.

The Israeli military stated formally that it had identified a missile attack launched by Iran against Israel. “A short while ago, (the Israeli military) identified missiles launched from Iran towards the territory of the State of Israel,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

The Israeli military confirmed that its air defence system was immediately activated to respond to the threat. “The air defence system is operating to intercept the threat,” it added.

Meanwhile, seven people were reported injured. The casualties were evacuated for medical treatment. “The Jerusalem District Fire Department is currently responding to impact sites located on a main road in the Jerusalem area,” said a statement from the national fire service.

“According to medical authorities, seven injured persons with varying degrees of severity have been evacuated from the location to receive medical treatment,” it added.

Military sensors prohibited the media from disclosing the precise locations of the affected areas.
