Following Iran’s launch of a comprehensive attack across the Middle East in response to major strikes conducted by the US and Israel, an airport in Dubai sustained damage.

Dubai’s media office confirmed the incident that occurred at the airport on Saturday, 28 February 2026, resulting in four people being injured.

“Dubai Airport also confirmed that a waiting lounge at Dubai International Airport (DXB) experienced minor damage in an incident, which was swiftly addressed,” stated the media office on social media platform X.

After experiencing this incident, Dubai International Airport (DXB), one of the world’s busiest airports, decided to cancel thousands of flights and temporarily close the airport for an indefinite period.

A Dubai Airport spokesperson stated: “Dubai Airport confirms that all flight operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) are suspended until further notice.”

Previously, Iran had used ballistic missiles and drones to launch a large-scale attack against US allies and assets throughout the Gulf following the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei in a US-Israel air strike launched on Saturday morning.

Separately, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait stated that they had intercepted missiles fired at their territories, but falling debris has caused widespread damage.

The Iranian attack also caused a fire at the Jebel Ali seaport dock. Additionally, the five-star luxury hotel Fairmont The Palm was struck by a major explosion, resulting in a severe fire.

A similar incident was experienced by Oman, which reported that its commercial port of Duqm was targeted by two drones, resulting in one worker being injured.

On Saturday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that they had attacked the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet located in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.
