Iranian Foreign Minister, UN Secretary-General Discuss Current Regional Conditions

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has communicated by telephone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss a number of current conditions in the region. During the call, Guterres offered condolences on the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and expressed deep sympathy to the people and government of Iran. Guterres and Araghchi also exchanged updates on international and regional developments, particularly regarding the situation in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Previously, the Iranian Foreign Minister also responded to the latest message from the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), stating that for peace in the region to be sustained, efforts must be comprehensive, inclusive, and free from foreign interference. In a post on social media platform X, Araghchi questioned CENTCOM’s role in the region, asking whether it was maintaining security or bringing threats. He added that the strength of Iran’s military forces has proven capable of matching foreign parties who cannot even protect themselves.
