TEHERAN – Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that Trump’s objective to overthrow the regime in Iran is an impossible mission. According to him, the Iranian government is supported by the majority of people in the country.

“This is an impossible mission. You cannot carry out regime change whilst millions of people support the regime in question,” Araghchi stated on Saturday.

He described how millions of people across Iran took to the streets to support the government in commemoration of the 1979 revolution anniversary. “Yes, there are also people who complain, but they are strong supporters of the regime,” he said.

According to Araghchi, Iran attacked US military facilities in the Middle East region in self-defence. Teheran did not start the war; rather, the US and Israel launched aggression first.

“The United States and Israel initiated this aggression. Therefore, there are no limits for us to defend ourselves, but once the aggression is halted, we will also stop our self-defence.”

Araghchi emphasised that Iran is more interested in de-escalation and is prepared to talk after the US-Israeli attacks end. “Currently there is no communication,” he said in an interview with NBC News.

“But if America wants to talk with us, they know how they can contact me. We are certainly interested in de-escalation… This is America’s war of choice, and they must pay for it.”

Previously, the US and Israel targeted a number of objectives in Iran, including Iranian leaders such as Khamenei, with the aim of overthrowing the Iranian regime. Araghchi affirmed that Iran’s highest spiritual leader Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian remain alive.

“All senior officials are alive,” he said. “So everyone is now in their respective positions, and we are handling this situation, and everything is fine.”

Iranian media reported that Khamenei was scheduled to speak today.

Oman’s Foreign Minister, who has served as mediator in several rounds of indirect talks between the US and Iran, recently expressed disappointment with Israel’s attacks today. In a social media post, Albusaidi stated he was ‘shocked’ by the attacks.
