Iranian Foreign Minister Heads to China, What's Going On?
According to CNN, on Wednesday (6/5/2026), Araghchi has already arrived in Beijing. Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated that the two sides will “discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments”. Araghchi is known to have undertaken a diplomatic tour in recent weeks to garner international support and resolve the ongoing conflict with the US and Israel. China is a close partner of Iran and Tehran’s largest buyer of crude oil. Chinese officials have, for several weeks, called for an end to the US-Israel conflict with Iran. Trump has even suggested that Beijing help bring Iran to the negotiating table in recent weeks. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously urged China to inform Araghchi that Iran’s actions are causing the country to be “globally isolated”. The arrival of the Iranian official in Beijing comes about a week before US President Donald Trump’s visit to China, where he is expected to hold face-to-face meetings with leader Xi Jinping. It is known that before going to China, Araghchi also visited Russia. There, he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. They discussed bilateral relations and regional issues, including the Iran-US conflict.
