Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim reported on Sunday (26/4) that the return of Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to Islamabad, Pakistan, aims to convey conditions for ending the war with the United States (US) to Pakistan as the mediator.

According to the Tasnim report, Araghchi’s visit to Pakistan is not related to nuclear negotiations with the United States (US).

Araghchi, the media continued, will discuss bilateral relations and other issues with Pakistan, such as the implementation of Iran’s new legal system in the Strait of Hormuz, demands for war compensation, guarantees against the repetition of “aggression by war instigators,” and the lifting of the US Navy blockade.

Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Sunday (26/4) afternoon local time during his second visit since Friday (24/4), after previously stopping in Oman. His brief visit to Pakistan aims to continue consultations with Pakistani officials, the media stated.

After Pakistan, Araghchi is scheduled to visit Russia as the final stop in his regional tour. During his first visit to Islamabad, he met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir.

On 28 February 2026, Israel and the United States (US) launched a joint attack on Tehran and other cities in Iran, killing the then Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, several senior commanders, and civilians. Iran retaliated with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US assets in the Middle East, and tightened control over the Strait of Hormuz by blockading the passage of ships owned by or affiliated with Israel and the US.

A ceasefire that began on 8 April was followed by negotiations between Iran and the US in Islamabad on 11 and 12 April. However, after those negotiations failed, the US imposed a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz that prevents ships from and to Iranian ports from passing through.
