Iranian Foreign Minister Communicates New Proposal for Resolving Conflict with US
Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi communicated Tehran’s latest proposal to end its conflict with the United States to several foreign ministers in Asia and Europe. In separate discussions on Friday (1/5) and Saturday (2/5), Araghchi addressed regional developments and the ceasefire with Washington alongside officials from Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Russia, South Korea, Japan, France, Italy, as well as the European Union’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. Foreign Minister Araghchi stated that the “military aggression” by the US and Israel has caused vulnerabilities in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Iran did not initiate the war and remains open to diplomacy if the US stops its “maximalist approach,” threats, and provocative actions, Araghchi revealed. He added that Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to defend the country against any threats. The Iranian Foreign Minister also commended the “constructive” role of several regional countries in promoting diplomacy and preventing further escalation. On 28 February, Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Tehran and other cities in Iran, killing Iran’s then-supreme leader Ali Khamenei, as well as several senior commanders and Iranian civilians. Iran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US interests in the Middle East. The ceasefire came into effect on 8 April, followed by negotiations between Iranian and US delegations in Islamabad that failed to produce an agreement. Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, reported on Friday that a day earlier, Iran had sent a new proposal to Pakistan regarding negotiations with the US.
